Seagrass fix. Added a new piglin brute variant based on official Minecraft Legends concept art. There’s two random skins for these brutes. Pardon the massive tits I gave this brute, but the concept art also depicts him with big juicy purples. So blame Mojang. Enjoy! The snowball vindicators now only show up when the vindicator is right-handed. A minor change, but this makes sure the vindicator’s axe will never be found floating in mid-air. Added a new rare piglin variant that’s a baby piglin on stilts! Very funny.
Seagrass hotfix!

- Added one extra tile to the pool of random sand debris textures: the texture of a starfish! - There’s a starfish in Minecraft Dungeons, and now also in Java Edition :)
- Rebalanced how often my sand block debris textures show up. There’s now a difference in rarity per biome/height.
- Slight tweaks/fixes to the Leapleaf.
- You can now also rename a ravager to either “Leapleaf” or “Leaper” (“leaper” being the leapleaf’s in-development-name) to get the custom Mc Dungeons model.
- Added an ocean variant of the Leapleaf, based on the Poison Anemone’s flower.
- Hidden Depths variants of all the whisperer and quick growing vines! In beach/ocean biomes: The Wavewhisperer, and the Quick Growing Anemone!
- Rename an evoker to “Wavewhisperer” and it will take on the appearance of the correct Mc Dungeons mob.
- Leapleafs and Whisperers now change their magic colour from vex-blue to vex-red when they aggro.
- Added a custom skin for vexes in ocean biomes, to match the colour of the magic within the wavewhisperers (who spawn the vexes in the first place).
- The eyes of evokers now light up when they’re casting spells.
- Split up the features of the Geomancer to add more variation to my evokers. All evokers now have a 10% chance to spawn with either a beard, or a cool pearl necklace (or a hat, but I didn't add the hat this update). The Geomancer in Minecraft Dungeons has a pink necklace, but in my pack I made it vex-blue, and lights up red when the evoker is aggro. There’s a small chance for any evoker to spawn wearing Geomancer robes, and all of these features are made much more common in certain biomes. In old growth biomes for example, the necklaces/beards/robes will be a normal encounter.
- You can also rename an evoker to “Geomancer” and its model will change appropriately.
- In these biomes, Evoker Fangs have also been replaced with cool animated Geomancer Bombs! These bombs have some variety depending on where they spawn, and at what height level.
- Corrected the viewmodels of the Ballista and Formidi-Ballista crossbow renames.
Fixed horse armour z-fighting with the horses. Added many colourful skins for the skeletal horsemen as part of a Skeleton Trap. Added a unique model to skeleton horses. Added many colourful skins for the skeleton horses so they match the Skeleton Trap jockeys. You can now name a horse “Skeleton” and it’ll get a cool unique skin that represents the skeleton horse. I did this because my new skeleton horse skins are so cool, but skeleton horses in-game are incredibly slow. Now you can enjoy a regular horse, with the cool look of a skeleton horse :) Added Godzilla to my pack. Or how I call him: “Blockzilla”. He places the Giant mob. The Giant in Minecraft is pretty useless, so I don’t know why I went ahead and modelled the biggest mob of my career, and he barely has any Ai. But here we are. Slight UV fix for my spider jockey skeleton. Some tweaks to the spawning conditions of skeletons in my pack. Added some detail like gravel rocks and seashells on sand blocks if they spawn in ocean or beach biomes. Also added the occasional sandy details to dirt in ocean/desert biomes. Slight colour tweak to snowy grass. Added a new cobblestone variant texture, based on the cobblestone in Minecraft Legends. Added a very slow pulsing animation to shroomlight. Added a custom look for bedrock that spawns in the End. Some tweaks to my ghast model/texture. I fixed some inconsistencies in the model + optimised it, and also reworked the face of my ghast. I tried to move a bit closer to the default ghast’s face, for recognition’s sake. Added two fun new models for ghasts, that will uncommonly spawn throughout the Nether. Based on official Mc Legends concept art, one model is of a ghast with a big golden contraption built around it, designed to control the poor ghast. It even has a baby piglin on top. The second model is of a ghast turned into a hot air balloon by the piglins. Complete with a basket and a tiny passenger inside. Fixed baby villagers. A new look for all evokers when spawned in any jungle biome! They now look like the Whisperer mob from Minecraft Dungeons! I customised the texture to match the Java Edition artsyle, and they work great! Shoutout to GillsBills of who let me use his Whisperer model made for ReCrafted Mobs! Complete with matching “evoker fangs” that look like vines from Mc Dungeons! Ravagers spawned in jungles now look like the Leapleaf mob from Minecraft Dungeons.
- Added a new rare phantom variant based on the Moth Creature from the “Camp Enderwood” Bedrock Marketplace DLC experience.
- It has cool custom animations to get you fully immersed!
- You can also name a phantom “Moth Creature” to get this visual variant.
- There’s also a coloured variant with a funny hat that’s a reference to the ‘civilian’ outfit of the Moth Creature.
- Fixed the floating handles of trapped chests. Finally.
- Also slight texture tweaks.
- Added all the NPC characters from Minecraft Education Edition to my pack as random nitwit variants.
- All nitwit variants are now equally as rare. Sometimes you encounter a fun one, other times a boring one. But they’re all there.
- Some custom models for NPCs that were begging for it! Namely:
- Ocelot
- Panda
- Fox
- Polar Bear
- Pufferfish
- Cow
- Bee
- Three variants from the “Mini Game Heroes Skin Pack”!
- Archie
- The Retired Adventurer from Minecraft Dungeons.
- But in total there’s like 60 so. Enjoy catching them all!
- Made fire way more transparent let’s gooo
- Added little hunger icons to food to indicate how much the food would saturate you. The same way VanillaTweaks does it.
- Made banner shields the same resolution as banners. This technically makes banner shields have mixels, but at least banners will now translate properly to shields. Another genius feature I added that’s inspired by VanillaTweaks.
- Slightly changed the texture of the hunger bar icon.
- Added a new named armour style for all tiers made by the one and only NinjaFrito; “Shogun Armour”! Thank your local NinjaFrito for this change.
- Changed the elytra item model again. Lol.
- Found a lot of cool concept art for Minecraft Dungeons by Tiago Martins!

-
- Souldancer Elytra
-
- Arch Elytra
-
- Verdant Elytra
- Added chest armour to all Netherite leggings. A pretty big change that I’m very excited about!
-
- This way if you’re wearing your elytra (no chestplate), you look less silly, and your chest will still be covered by your leggings.
- Removed some (many) duplicate root groups from my .jem files. Basically cleaned up the pack.
- Fixed the Formidi-Ballista, Voidcaller, and The Slicer's spectral arrow model.
- Removed the tears of the Xbox Elytra. The Red Ring of Death is enough of an indication that your elytra has run out :D
- Tweax
- Updated the pack format to 18.
- Updated my GUI to 1.20.2! Which means all animated GUI is now available without OptiFine!
- Made a new pack.png for a new era of Barely Default. A Fabulously Optimized era.
- Made Barely Default more compatible with the Fabulously Optimized Modpack, as far as I could. Any errors still cause can be reported to me and the mod author so we can work together.
- Added support for the crafter GUI.
- A new model for the crafter, with 3D elements classic to my pack.
- Added support for my visual waxed item system for the new copper items.
- Added custom models with 3D features for copper (trap)doors.
- Changed the GUI-light option for all doors in the inventory to “front”. Who cares.
- Some fixes.
- Made my fossil stone texture four times as common, but it now only shows up on one side of a block. Happy hunting.
- Added the 3D details of the villager professions to zombie villagers.
- Added the Mc Legends white/orange coat for villagers in plains biomes to zombie villagers. Tattered and all.
- Fixed the rotated arms on witches, villagers, and evokers.
- Added a new named Netherite axe variant: The “Mace of Legends”.
- Added a new rare baby drowned variant that’s made out of sponge. Where have I seen this before..?
-
- SpongeDrowned spawns 1 in 64 baby drowneds, and its spongy skin turns to a wet texture when it touches water.
- Added two more recoloured skins for baby drowneds, in the palettes of the adult drowned variants.
- Made the animations of the laser equipment in my pack (Redstone Riot, Shield of Infinity, Droid, and Robot) slightly off-sync of each tool in a set, so each piece flickers on an individual level, instead of all at the same time. This is just a bit more immersive, and something you won’t notice unless I didn’t add it. Which I didn’t do in the last update. But I’m sure nobody cared. Who’s reading this? Hello?? Send help!
- Fixed spawning behaviour for my jolly llama skin. Not the named one, the variant of the brown llama that shows up in snowy biomes.
- Added eight new Netherite sword renames for all the Adventure Time fans:
-
- Adventure Sword
-
- Sword of Battle
-
- Void Sword
-
- Grass Katana
-
- Small Rapier
-
- Player Sword
-
- The Red Rascal
-
- Root Sword
- My Monster Drowned now also spawns on beaches, and I removed the height dependent spawning restrictions. This variant should show up more now. Added another Netherite sword rename to reference Halo: The “Energy Sword”.
- Renamed the “Hero’s Greatbow” to Shieldbreaker Bow. Now this bow design - whose palette already matched the Swordbreaker armour set - is part of the Mc Story Mode Netherite collection in my pack.
- Added a new Netherite armour set: “Axebreaker” armour.
-
- This set is supposed to be part of the “Swordbreaker” family, with matching palettes and details.
-
- Other than matching the Swordbreaker armour, the Axebreaker set is inspired by Ancient Armour in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Ancient Armour in BotW has a very unique detailed design, so instead of losing all that detail in making a pixel version of the set, I just took the ‘vibe’ and made up a set that way. It’s something I hadn’t done before, so I’m happy this set is in the pack!
- Changed the Shieldbreaker Sword and Shieldbreaker Axe to look like weapons from Breath of the Wild that match that game’s Ancient Armour.
- Added emissive maps to the Swordbreaker armour set.
- Added two new shield renames:
-
- Swordbreaker Shield
-
- Axebreaker Shield
-
-
- These shields are added to complete the Swordbreaker/Axebreaker sets respectively, but they also reference the shields from BotW.
-
- Added a new named armour style for all tiers: “Combat” Armour - referencing Master Chief’s Mjolnir armour in Halo.
- Added a new Netherite sword rename: the “Combat Sword”. An animated energy weapon, referencing Halo again.
- Upgraded the design of the Ender Dragon elytra.
- Fixed my elytra item model. It was never obvious it was broken, but the next feature on this changelog really pushed me to make my pack more ‘perfect’.
- Added a few elytra renames:
-
- Red Dragon Wings
-
- Awesome Elaetra
-
- Blonk Elaetra
-
- No-Circle Elaetra
-
- Veterinarian Elaetra
-

-
- Fauna Faire Elytra
-
- Ominous Elytra
-
- Hammer Elytra
-
- Hero’s Elytra
-
- Xbox Elytra
-
- Playstation Elytra
-
- Magnus’ Elytra
- Not a big deal.
- Fixed a slight problem in the third-person view model of my Dragon blasters.
- Added two new shields:
-
- The “Dragonslayer Shield”
-
- And its coloured alternative, the “Dragonmaster Shield”.
-
- These two shields help complete the Dragonslayer/master named Netherite collections.
- Added emissive maps for the ‘Redstone Riot’ and ‘Shield of Infinity’ armour sets.
- Reworked the ‘Redstone Riot’ and ‘Shield of Infinity’ weapons/tools to have unique designs. It’s now a cool gauntlet with a laser sword/tool sticking out!
- Added another two new shields:
-
- The “Redstone Riot Shield”
-
- And the “Infinity Shield”
-
- These two shields complete the ‘Redstone Riot’ and ‘Shield of Infinity’ sets.
- Added a new named armour variant for all tiers. “Plate” Armour.
-
- The chainmail set is inspired by a set in Minecraft Dungeons.
-
- The other tiers are specifically designed to be minimally intrusive, so you can show off your skin.
-
- Fun fact: The in-development name for the set was “Female RPG Armor”.
- Added one more teenie tiny shield: the “Hero’s Shield” - based on Toon Link’s shield in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
- I guess this is the Shield Update..? Because I added three more shields to complete some of my named Netherite collections.
-
- The “Robot Shield”
-
- it’s counterpart; the “Droid Shield”
-
- And the “Journey Shield.
- Changed the eyes of my ‘spirit of the forest’ wooden skeleton skin from yellow to green.
- Fixed the cave spider’s UV mapping.
- Slightly tweaked the palette of the Master’s Shield to match my ‘magical metals’ palette.
- Tweaked and improved the animation of spiders and zombified piglins.
- Updated the texture of the Heartstealer Netherite Sword rename to be more unique.
- Added a new named bow variant, the “Leeching Thief” - almost identical to the Heartstealer, this ‘sword’ fires arrows, and allows you to immersively ‘dual wield’ in Minecraft :)
- Some tweaks and fixes. Always doing these. Always? Always <3
- The eyes of any arthropod mob now glow red when aggressive. More instantly so than in default.
- Zombified piglin eyes now also glow red when they’re aggro. This is actually pretty useful in-game.
- Added a snowy variant of my rare Stag Beetle spider variant.
- Added 11 new colourful variants of the Nerf Dragon crossbow rename, with unique appearances referencing Minecraft Story Mode, among others.
-
- Ender Dragon
-
- Red Dragon
-
- Mythical Dragon
-
- Master Dragon
-
- Slayer of Dragons
-
- Dark Dragon
-
- Light Dragon
-
- Ice Dragon
-
- The First Dragon
-
- Guardian Dragon
-
- Royal Dragon
- Added another bow rename, the “Eye of the Storm” - a Stormlander variant that shoots arrows like the Minecraft Nerf toy.
-
- This allowed me to finally go nuts with the animations for a Mjolnir-esque weapon! You have to see the reload animation of this one in-game…
- Fixed some subtle UV issues on the skeleton base textures.
- Some more texture tweaks. Nice and vague, that’s how I like it.
- Added a new rare wooden skeleton variant for all wood types, with glowing yellow eyes. Supposed to be like a spirit of the forest, taking revenge on you for all the trees you don’t finish cutting down.
- Added some more detail to my scorpion (desert spider variant) animation, including a cool stabbing motion by Ewan Howell!
- Fixed the firework.png texture missing on “The Slicer” crossbow rename. Guess nobody (including me) ever fired a firework from The Slicer. Poor The Slicer™.
- Tweaked the head of baby cows.
- I also reworked the way the cows work in my pack entirely, but you literally won’t notice a difference. Other than my ability to now easily add more cow variants!
- Renamed the Turtle Helmet to Turtle Shelmet. I had previously named it the “Turtle Shellmet” - two × L - and I guess both would have worked since it’s a play on words, but I just think “Turtle Shelmet” is a bit more clean.
- Added a new named variant of the turtle shelmet, the “Ruby Turtle Shelmet”, as a reference to the Ruby Turtle from Minecraft Dungeons.
- Added 12 colourful cow variants that spawn exclusively in flower forests.
- Trying to take flower forests to the next level, and to include Minecraft Earth’s Moobloom in Barely Default, the twelve skins appear randomly on any cow spawned in that biome.
-
- You can also rename any cow to “Moobloom” to get this model anywhere.
-
-
- Keep in mind that instead of just being the yellow Moobloom canon in Mc Earth and Dungeons, a “Moobloom” in Barely Default will randomly use any of the 12 skins.
-
-
- You can also name a cow “Moolip” for the same flowery model.
-
-
- Moolips only use the five tulip-themed skins I have for cows.
-
-
- Another reason to settle in a flower forest!
- Changed bees spawned in cherry groves. Their little beehinds are now covered in pink nectar dust, and when they’re angry their eyes are also slightly pink.
- Added the Sunken Skeletons from Mc Dungeons to my pack’s pool of skeleton base layer textures, for skeletons spawning in beach/ocean biomes.
-
- There’s five variants of the sunken skeleton skin. One for each type of coral.
-
- The coral on the Sunken Skeletons is dead on land, but when the skeleton is in water, it turns colourful. A very unique dynamic feature!
Fixed some stuff.
Added new models for spiders spawning in various biomes.
Half of all spiders in deserts are now scorpions. Look out!
There’s two random colour variants for scorpions, to match the variety the spiders have already in Barely Default.
Half of spiders on beaches and ocean biomes are now crabs. Look out, but sideways!
Added a texture variant for crabs to represent the 2023 Mob-Vote candidate, spawning in mangrove swamps.
Crabs in snowy biomes have a darker red shell, and blue eyes, to match spiders in snowy biomes.
A small chance for spiders anywhere to spawn as a beetle. Renamed the (Fermented) Spider Eye item to “Arthropod Eye”.
Added two new Netherite sword renames, based on Cloud’s weapons from the Final Fantasy series (and Smash Bros Ultimate lol)
The “Breaker Sword”
And the “Mechanical Breaker Sword”
Added the official Minecraft Nerf weapons as named variants for crossbows! One of the most fun models I’ve made!
Be on the lookout for their custom reload animation and emissive maps!
-
Added a new named armour set for all the tiers: “Proud” Armour - with colourful rainbows.
-
Fixed some stuff.
Added a few more zombie variants for good measure.
Reworked the blaze’s head a bit.
Added a custom model for blazes spawned in Soul Sand Valleys - inspired by Wraiths from Minecraft Dungeons. Animated textures. There’s also two rare variants of the mob, one with pink robes, the other has green robes. This is a reference to the pink robed Tower Wraith from Mc Dungeons; which was originally going to be wearing green robes.
Pigs in the Nether (why are they in the Nether?) now use a zombified skin. Baby pigs also :’(
Added a new named iron golem variant from Minecraft Dungeons: the “Redstone Golem”.
Added another named iron golem variant, inspired by Mc Story Mode: “PAMA” - a very special rename. Has a low chance of spawning naturally in savannah biomes. An animated face that cycles through PAMA’s facial expressions from Story Mode. A “blue screen of death” face when at 1% health. A pulsing Redstone Heart lodged into its back.
Split the skeleton model up into multiple textures.
Added more random armour for skeletons.
Added biome-dependent variants for skeletons, based on the Biome Settler skin packs by Mojang x 4j Studios, for the old Console Editions.
Added the quivers from Minecraft Dungeons (artifacts) as rare quivers on my skeletons.
Added a new rare vindicator model, only in dark forest biomes; based on the Frankencrafter, also a reference to the official Console Edition skin packs.
Added a rare nitwit variant with melon armour, as a reference to the Villager Tumbler skin from the Mini Game Heroes skin pack.
Optimized my system for illagers and drowned.
Added a new random skin for pillagers, based on the Thief skin from the Town Folk skin pack.
Also added a new witch variant based on the same skin pack.
Added new random variants for the drowned, based on the Sea-Swallowed Captain from the Campfire Tales Skin Pack. Every drowned variant has a chance of spawning with a feathered hat, hook, and peg leg.
Some texture tweaks to various mobs.
New Monster Drowned variant that has a pufferfish for a head…
New rare zombie variant based on "The Unshorn" from the Campfire Tales skin pack. You can also name a zombie appropriately to get this model.
Added a rare witch variant based on “Cropsy” from the same skin pack as the Unshorn. Also a named variant if you want a melonhead witch in your world.
- Added saddles and a little blindfold for chickens when they spawn being ridden by a baby zombie.
- Added two new named crossbow variants:
- Balista
- Formidi-Balista
- Some tweaks to some zombie textures.
- Added the NPCs from Mc Story Mode to the pack as zombie variants.
- The NPCs in Story Mode are split into three sections, and the game randomises each part for an immersive collection of background characters. This means I had to add a similar system to the zombies in my pack.
- For good measure, on top of the head, top, and bottom parts, I also added two layers of random wear & tear the zombies can spawn with.
- All this puts the amount of unique zombie variants to encounter at a whopping: 39×32×8×28×13×52+(39×158)+1= 188,983,315
- I also took the liberty of adding biome-dependant textures to the zombie parts!
- Zombies in snowy biomes can spawn covered in ice, and there's zombies dressed in vines in appropriate biomes.
- These overlays are reminiscent of the DLC exclusive zombies in Minecraft Dungeons.
