The ability to fly in survival is an iconic part of many modpacks, and this datapack finally brings that experience to vanilla! That's right - simply hold space to begin your ascent, and let go of space to fall back down gracefully.
Benefits of Flight
By adding this feature, this datapack has fixed many of the present issues with various parts of the game:
- Building - The lack of mobility in survival mode is surely a pain point for many builders. No more! Simply hop off the edge of your structure and skillfully hover as you add decorations to the underside of your balcony.
- This also fixes Scaffolding being expensive to craft, because Scaffolding is now obsolete!
- Combat - 1.8 players rejoice! After many years, Minecraft's PvP has been fixed. With the new ability to take fights into the air, combat has become a much more dynamic and exciting experience.
- Transport - Frustrated by the fact that Elytra is the de-facto travel method, leaving Minecarts in the dust? By limiting the places you can take off from (see below), I've finally fixed yet another issue with the 1.9 update! Soul Speed comes into its own in this new situation.
As you can see, this datapack is the future of Minecraft. Once you've installed it, you'll never want to go back!
100% Intended Balancing Changesâ„¢
- Player walking speed has been reduced to take into account the increased mobility available through flight
- Fall speed has been capped (even in Creative), in order to give the player a moral lesson about the consequences of their actions, and discourage excessively-high flight
- Diagonal horizontal movement when flying has been buffed to encourage thoughtful planning of how you'll move
- You can no longer enter Scaffolding from the top, as you don't need to use Scaffolding anyway
- Swimming in Water still works as it used to
- You can stand within partial blocks, like Buttons or Tall Grass to experience the old behaviour of air
- Gone are the days of just taking off with Elytra wherever you feel like it! You now need to use a 'bubble' of partial blocks before you can take off. This is to make other transport methods more balanced.
